What We Do

L’nuey works to advance and protect the constitutionally protected rights of the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq. Our work is guided by three central pillars: Negotiations, Consultations, and Governance Development. Together, these pillars guide and support how we advance, protect, and implement Mi’kmaq Aboriginal and Treaty Rights in Epekwitk.

Through negotiations, L’nuey represents the collective interests of the Epekwtitnewaq Mi’kmaq.

  • We engage directly with federal and provincial governments to advance outstanding rights and title issues.
  • Our work ensures that the spirit and intent of treaties, as well as constitutional protections, are upheld and respected.
  • Negotiations are about more than legal agreements—they are about building stronger relationships, creating opportunities, and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

The Duty to Consult is a constitutional obligation that requires governments to meaningfully engage with the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq when decisions may affect Aboriginal and Treaty Rights. L’nuey leads this process on behalf of the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq, ensuring that Mi’kmaq voices are heard and respected in matters involving Epekwitk’s lands, waters, and communities. Through consultation, we protect Mi’kmaq rights, build stronger relationships with government and industry, and support decisions that reflect respect, partnership, and reconciliation.

  • We review and respond to projects, policies, and developments that may impact Mi’kmaq rights and interests.
  • This process strengthens the principle of free, prior, and informed consent.
